Performance

Low density polyethylene has long and short chain branches on its molecular chain. Low crystallinity, molecular weight is generally 50,000 to 500,000, it is a milky white translucent waxy solid resin that is non-toxic. Softening point is lower, melting above the softening point,good thermal fusion, good molding performance, good flexibility, good impact toughness and low temperature resistance,

-60 ° C ~ -80 ° C work, excellent electrical insulation (especially high frequency insulation), mechanical strength of LDPE.


Poor, heat resistance is not high, resistance to environmental stress cracking, adhesion, adhesion, poor printability, need to pass through the surface.The treatment, such as chemical etching, corona, etc., can improve the adhesion and printability.


Water absorption, excellent chemical stability, such as acid, alkali, salt, organic solvents are more stable. For CO2, organic odor.The gas permeability is large, but the permeability to water vapor and air is poor. Flammable, burning like paraffin; in daylight


It is easy to age and degrade and change color under the action of heat, turn from white to yellow to brown, and finally black, and the performance is degraded or turtle.According to cross-linking, the softening point, temperature resistance, rigidity, solvent resistance and the like can be improved.


Application

Low density polyethylene (LDPE) is suitable for various molding processes in thermoplastic molding. Good formability,such as injection molding, extrusion molding, blow molding, rotary molding, coating, foaming process, thermoforming, hot air welding, heat welding and so on.


The main use of LDPE is as a film product, such as agricultural film, floor covering film, agricultural film, vegetable,shed film, etc.packaging film such as candy, vegetables, frozen food, etc.; liquid packaging blown film (milk,soy sauce, juice. Tofu, soy milk); heavy packaging bags, shrink wrap film, elastic film, lining film; construction of film, general industrial packaging film and food bags.


LDPE is also used in injection molded products such as small containers, lids, household products, plastic flowers, injection molding, stretching and blowing.Plastic container. Medical equipment, pharmaceutical and food packaging materials, extruded pipes, wire and cable packaging,profiles, thermoforming and other products; blow molding hollow molded products, such as food containers with dairy products and jams, drugs,cosmetics, chemical product containers, tanks, etc.


Production method

Low-density polyethylene can be classified into a high pressure method and a low pressure method according to a polymerization method. According to the type of reactor, it can be divided into a kettle method and a tube method. Ethylene is used as raw material, fed to the reactor, and subjected to high-pressure compression under the action of an initiator to carry out polymerization reaction. The material coming out of the reactor is subjected to removal of unreacted ethylene by a separator, and then melt-extruded and granulated, dried and blended. Come and send it to the package.


Both LDPE and LLDPE have excellent rheology or melt flow. LLDPE has less shear sensitivity because it has a narrow molecular weight distribution and short chain branching. During the shearing process (e.g., extrusion), the LLDPE maintains a greater viscosity and is therefore more difficult to process than the same melt index LDPE. In extrusion, the lower shear sensitivity of the LLDPE causes the stress relaxation of the polymer molecular chain to be faster, and thus the sensitivity of the physical properties to changes in the blow ratio is reduced.


In melt extension, LLDPE typically has a lower viscosity at various strain rates. This means that it will not produce strain hardening when stretched like LDPE. As the deformation rate of polyethylene increases, LDPE shows a surprising increase in viscosity due to molecular chain entanglement. This phenomenon is not observed in LLDPE because of the lack of long chain branching in the LLDPE to prevent the polymer from becoming entangled. This property is extremely important for film applications because LLDPE films are easier to make thinner films while maintaining high strength and toughness. The rheology of nLLDPE can be summarized as "rigidity at shear" and "softness when stretched".


Film extrusion equipment and conditions must be modified when replacing LDPE with LLDPE. The high viscosity of LLDPE requires the extruder to have more power and provide higher melt temperatures and pressures. The die gap must be widened to avoid reduced yield due to high back pressure and melt fracture. The modulo of the LDPE and the LLDPE are O. 024~0. 040 in. and 0. 060-0. 10in. The "softening when extended" nature of LLDPE is a disadvantage in the blown film process. The blown film bubble of LLDPE is not as stable as LDPE.
